Photos of the 2005 harvesting

The Strawford family moved to Wernddu farm in the light snow of April 1999, to a beautiful, tranquil area of Monmouthshire, with breath taking views of an idyllic and quiet countryside.

After retiring from running a successful manufacturing business, we decided to take the plunge and set up a vineyard. The thought of producing your very own wine must appeal to many, to us it certainly did.

More about the Vineyard -

Planting of the vines began in March 2002 with two hundred white 'Reichensteiner'. A variety that thrives better here than in its country of origin, Germany.

The gentle, south facing, sloping sheltered field we have was the perfect starting spot.

After seeing the first years growth we realised the site and position was favourable, and could be run as a viable long term business, taking up to four or five years before the first drinkable wine might be bottled.

In March 2003 we planted a further six hundred vines; three hundred white 'Pheonix' and three hundred of the classic red 'Pinot Noir' which may only produce a true red in good years.
