| The Strawford family moved to Wernddu farm in the light snow of April 1999, to a beautiful, tranquil area of Monmouthshire, with breath taking views of an idyllic and quiet countryside. After retiring from running a successful manufacturing business, we decided to take the plunge and set up a vineyard. The thought of producing your very own wine must appeal to many, to us it certainly did. |
More about the Vineyard - Planting of the vines began in March 2002 with two hundred white 'Reichensteiner'. A variety that thrives better here than in its country of origin, Germany. |

The gentle, south facing, sloping sheltered field we have was the perfect starting spot. |
After seeing the first years growth we realised the site and position was favourable, and could be run as a viable long term business, taking up to four or five years before the first drinkable wine might be bottled. In March 2003 we planted a further six hundred vines; three hundred white 'Pheonix' and three hundred of the classic red 'Pinot Noir' which may only produce a true red in good years.
